12 Days Guatemala and Belize Tour

During this journey you will visit the highlights of Guatemala and Belize, giving you the opportunity to discover all its hidden treasures.  It has all the activities you could expect of a world class journey.  The tour begins in Antigua Guatemala, a city inspired by the Italian Renaissance, continuing to the Western Highlands of Guatemala and then visiting three of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan civilization.   You´ll have the chance to appreciate the differences of architecture, art and majesty of the Mayan constructions and monuments.   Then continuing to Belize to experience the wildlife and nature, and finish with the unique caribbean beaches to relax.

Day 1: Airport – Antigua Guatemala:

Reception at the airport “La Aurora”. Transfer to your hotel in Antigua Guatemala.

 

Day 2: Antigua Guatemala

Visit to the most important and significant attractions of the city including Antigua’s most beautiful churches, monasteries, convents, and the central plaza. Overnight accommodations in Antigua.

 

Day 3: Pacaya

After breakfast transfer to the most active volcano in Guatemala, its 2500 mts. above the sea; the environment is formed by humid forest and rocks. This is one of the most exciting experiences in Guatemala, where you will enjoy from impressive views of the lagoon of Calderas and other three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego and Acatenango and landscapes as if you were on the moon. It is readily accessible and you don’t need to be in good shape to climb it, however you need to wear good hiking boots and wear long pants. When finish transfer back to Antigua Guatemala.

 

Day 4: Santiago de Atitlán

Visit to Lake Atitlán, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. The word “Atitlán” is a Mayan word that translates as “the place where the rainbow gets its colors”. Early in the morning 07:00 a.m transfer to Lake Atitlan. Upon arrival discover the magic that surrounds all its greatness while taking a boat to cross the Lake and visit a Tzutuhil Village. Santiago where you will visit the confraternity of the local saint named Maximon or Ri Laj Mam, visited by different people of different ethnicities who come to ask health and prosperity in their lives. Whether you believe in it or not, make sure to enjoy this magical experience.

Transfer back to Panajachel by boat for overnight.

 

Day 5: Market Day Thursday or Sunday Chichicastenango

In the morning you will be transfer to Chichicastenango’s market, the most colorful and exciting place in the Mayan Highlands and the only place in Guatemala of 100% Quiché population. After the visit you’ll be transferred to Guatemala City to board your flight to Flores, Peten. (Departure flight: 17:15 hrs) On your arrival our representative will transfer to your hotel for overnight.

 

Day 6: Tikal

After breakfast, transfer to one of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan World, Tikal, its name means “Place of Voices”, built during the Maya Classic Period. There are places on this earth that are so stunning that it is impossible to capture them in words or photographs. Tikal is such a place and is considered the second largest city in the Maya world.

Tikal has the distinction of being the first site in Guatemala declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Upon arrival at Tikal archaeological site, our guide will show you the layout of the complex of Temples and Acropolis. Visit to the Complex Q and R, then to the Central Acropolis, Temples I “El Gran Jaguar and the Temple II “Los Mascarones”, regarded as the first and one of the most important monuments in the complex. Visit to the Lost World.

Transfer back to your hotel for overnight.

 

Day 7: Yaxhá – San Ignacio:

Transfer to Yaxhá, a former ceremonial center and city of the Pre-Columbian Maya Civilization.  The facilities have evidence of Teotihuacan influence in their architecture and stelae. We can find the only twin pyramid complex outside of Tikal, also known as the Stelae Plaza.  During this visit you will enjoy the wildlife, jungle and mystic surroundings of this unique area.  After we finish the tour, transfer to San Ignacio in Belize for overnight.

 

Day 8: Caracol

After breakfast you will visit the archaeological site Caracol. A great city once, remains in the site of one of the tallest manmade structures in the entire country the “Canaa or Sky Pyramid”. You will watch the amazing scenic area of jagged forested peaks, rolling hills and steep gorge. When finish return to San Ignacio for overnight.

 

Day 9: Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Tour (ATM) – San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

Today you will have an adventure tour to the ATM Caves, this caves features ceramics, stoneware and even human skeletons. You will hike for 30 minutes through the forest before arriving the entrance to the cave.  A short swim will lead you into the amazing underworld realm. You will enjoy geological formations like sparkling stalactites, stalagmites, and flow stones. We recommend to bring light clothing and swim wear and close-toe footwear with good sole grips.  When finish transfer to Belize City. You will take the water taxi to San Pedro, Ambergris.

On arrival transfer to your hotel for overnight.

 

Day 10: Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley, Ambergris Caye

Hol Chan is the oldest marine reserve located on the southern trip in Ambergris Cayes, which cover approximately three square miles and it’s divided into four zones. We will make two stops to enjoy the amazing underwater landscape of the Barrier Reef to it’s fullest. You will see all kinds of corals as well as brights tropical fish. The second stop will be at the Shark Ray Alley.

Day 11: San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

Day is at leisure.

 

Day 12: San Pedro, Ambergris Caye – Belize City

In the morning you will be transfer to the airstrip to board the flight to Belize City.Flight departure on your choice from 09:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m., departing every hour
