Iran is starting to become the talk of the town. And if you want to experience true Iranian culture and have authentic adventures, now is the time to visit.
Iran is multi-ethnic and multicultural, it has decorative and exotic architecture, impressive landscapes and rich culture. And word is that it has the most welcoming people in the world. As a visitor you may expect invitations for dinner or tea, and you should grab that opportunity if it presents itself.
There are endless things to see in this impressive country. In the vibrant capital of Tehran there´s a number of art galleries, museums along with some stunning and absorbingly detailed architecture.
But a visit to the historic cities of Isfahan, Shiraz, Yazd and Kashan should also be on your to-do list while you´re here. Also visit Persepolis for a glimpse into the ancient Persian empire.
For the adventurous traveler, trek the Alamut Valley or go on an off-road bike through the Dasht-e Lut and Kavir deserts. Skiiers can enjoy Shemshak or Dizin, the most famous resorts in Iran, both in close proximity to Tehran. Everyone should go camping in one of the desert dunes and enjoy the diverse flora and breathtaking landscape. For advanced climbers the highest point in the country, the volcano Mt. Damavand at 5610 meters, is a must. And the beach resort and free trade Kish Island is great for snorkeling or diving.
Independent travel is not allowed in Iran, but with some operators you can be as few as two people on a tailor-made trip. As Iranian authorities have relaxed the visa requirements and certain airlines have resumed direct flights to Tehran, you´ll be wise to go now before everyone else does.
